Korean Artists Society of Canada
The Korean Artists Society of Canada (KASC) was established
on January 7, 1980 by a group of Korean-Canadian artists who studied fine arts
in Canada, Korea, and other parts of the world. The KASC has a vital role in
promoting and assisting the development of visual arts, mainly – drawing,
painting, print making, sculpture, installation arts, etc., for the enjoyment
and benefit of the Korean-Canadian artists and its community at large.
Annually, KASC holds two exhibitions; one in spring and one in late fall.
MANDATE
To promote development and advancement of exhibitions,
festival and arts related activities as a way of enriching and strengthening the
lives of the people of the Korean-Canadian community, especially within the
Greater Toronto Area. And to provide a cultural environment sensitive to the
need of members and free of language barrier.
OBJECTIVES
1. To promote artistic merits of the Korean-Canadian
artists through exhibitions;
2. To provide opportunities and encourage better exposures
to emerging artists and professional artists and to mentor the young in the community;
3. To promote friendship and understanding among artists
through joint exhibitions by sharing meaningful experience with artists of
various background and culture;
4. To contribute to the local Canadian culture by
introducing the richness and diversity of the KASC
Historically KASC has been a well recognized and respected
organization within the Korean Canadian Community by way of successful art
exhibitions and programs over the last twenty years. Maintaining the same
tradition, KASC continues to serve the community through fund raising projects
for various causes and provide jury service for Annual Art Competition for
Korean Canadian Children and Youth.
Although KASC is rooted in Korean Canadian community, we
are committed to promoting arts in the wider cultural context of Canadian
society. Also its membership is well represented beyond the Greater Toronto Area
across Canada from British Columbia to Prince Edward Island.
